Matsaberidze Nеlli Vjcheslavovna

Nelli Matsaberidze was born in Minsk. In 1986, she graduated from Vitebsk School of Music in “Musicology” (Member of the Composers’ Union of Belarus N.N. Ustinova). The same year she entered Lunacharsky Belarusian State Conservatory and graduated in 1991 with a degree “Musicology” (Ph.D. N.V. Szymanski). In 1997 she enrolled in graduate school at Krapiva Institute Of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore, NASB, specialty 17.00.02 “Musical Art”. In 2004 she defended her thesis on “Modern Art in the music and the specificity of its index in the work of Belarusian composers of the 1960s and 1990s”, scientific adviser Prof. Dr. Ph. T.G. Mdivani. In 2009 she was awarded the title of associate professor in “Art.” Member of the Belarusian Union of Musicians, the Association of Belarusian Researchers in Music.

Nelli Matsaberidze is engaged in organizational and research work in the field of contemporary art process. In 2009, she produced and hosted an international scientific-practical conference “The World of Art and the Children.” Since 2010, she organizes and hosts “ChristmasMusicAcademy”, the annual concert educational project for talented youth in the Vitebsk Region Philharmonic, is the curator of “Weaving the soul of music”, the only concert learning project for expectant mothers in Belarus.

Research interests of Nelli Matsaberidze are associated with the genre and stylistic development of the national classical music. She is the author of over 60 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is a participant in domestic and international conferences, including: “Person. Color. Nature. Music” (Latvia), “Music Science Today: the permanent and the changeable” (Latvia), “Art and Pedagogy: the problems of art and music education” (Kazan, Russia), “Professional music art: traditions in the context of world music culture” (Samara, Russia). She is a member of the editorial board of the scientific publication of DaugavpilsStateUniversity “Muzikas zinatne sodien: pastavigais un mainigais”. Co-author of the international study “Belarusian and German music of the last quarter of the twentieth century: connection of continuity and its current state” (Belarus–Germany), conducted under the Fund for Basic Research of NAS of Belarus.

Since 2006, Nelli Matsaberidze is a member of the organizing committee of the Sollertinsky International Music Festival. Since 2010, the organizer of Scientific Conference of the Festival.

She conducts all preparatory work for information support activities, creation and editing of promotional and information materials, management of scientific readings of the Festival (contacts with academics, work planning and conducting readings) and publication of the collection of scientific articles of the Festival. She has published a series of articles about the Festival in the media and is actively working to promote it on the site of Vitebsk Region Philharmonic philharmonic.vitebsk.by (tabs on the main page “Festivals”).

Work experience

She worked as a teacher of music theory and music history courses in MinskGlinkaMusicalCollege (1989-1990), Akhremchyk Belarusian Lyceum of Arts (1990-1991), Vitebsk School of Music (1991-2000). From 2000 to 2010, she worked at the Vitebsk Masherov State University as a lecturer of the Department of Music and Musical Instruments, art lecturer, senior lecturer of art, associate professor of art, associate professor of music theory and musical instruments, deputy dean of the Faculty of Education, head of the department of music theory and musical instruments. Since 2010, she has been working in the position of artistic director of the Civil Code “Vitebsk Region Philharmonic Society.”
